Security alarm systems are designed to protect you by
detecting certain pre-selected conditions -- an opening door, a
breaking window, a sudden rise or fall in temperature, or the
presence of smoke. They can also transmit a special alarm signal to
indicate the need for medical assistance or other emergency help. To
fully understand security systems you must become familiar with some
basic parts and functions. Sensors come in all shapes and sizes,
including glass break detectors and infrared units that detect
motion and/or heat. The control unit , or " brains" receives a
message from the sensors through either wireless or hardwired
systems. The alarm may include anything from flashing lights to
blaring sirens.
